Position Summary
The Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad is a non-profit organization providing no-cost, exceptional emergency service to the communities of Bethesda, Chevy Chase, and upper Northwest Washington, D.C. The Rescue Squad is one of the nation’s premier volunteer fire/rescue organizations. With the exception of a paid daytime crew, the Rescue Squad is staffed by a corps of professionally trained volunteers who staff ambulances, medic units, and heavy rescue squads outfitted with cutting edge technology. Responding to more than 11,000 incidents a year with over 150 trained first responders, the Rescue Squad is unique on its reliance upon community donations for funding – reflecting a trusted relationship between the community and the Rescue Squad since 1947.
The Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad seeks individuals to manage and expand its current Development Program. The Rescue Squad's Development Program facilitates the daily operations and strategic development of the Rescue Squad by ensuring that the organization has sufficient financial and civic resources and support to respond to the increasing demands of a growing community.
Job Responsibilities:
Responsibilities of the Development Program will include:
• Developing new sources of financial support and cultivating donor relationships to meet ambitious fundraising goals (including grant writing and social networking/development)
• Organizing and managing fundraising events
• Developing a solid understanding of Rescue Squad’s mission, including occasional observation of volunteers operating on emergency medical, fire, and rescue incidents
• Articulating the mission, service offerings, and value of the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad to members of the community
• Reporting on Development Program activities to the General Membership, Development Committee, and Board of Directors of the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad
• Participating in short and long term planning for the Development Program
• Managing the day-to-day business needs of the Development Program
• Overseeing administrative activities, including Development Program income and expense administration, and donor database management
• Training and supervising temporary part-time staffing during periods of peak workload
Reporting Structure:
The Director of Development will report to the Chair of the Development Committee, who in turn reports to the organization's Board of Directors.
The Ideal Candidate Will Possess:
• A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university
• Two to five years of experience in non-profit development
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Enthusiasm for pursuing training and professional development opportunities
• Evidence of self-motivation and ability to work effectively with limited daily oversight
